Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission

Town of
Peshtigo

Project Summary

The Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission is currently working with the Town of Peshtigo to update its Comprehensive Plan.

Why the need for an update?
The Town’s existing plan was adopted in August of 2007 and is a 20-year plan which expired in 2017. Wisconsin state statutes require comprehensive plans to be updated every 10 years. Although a comprehensive plan looks at the next 20 years, they need to be updated halfway through that 20-year vision. A lot can change in 10 years. Updates serve as a checkpoint for communities to evaluate their existing comprehensive plan, and tailor it for the next 20 years.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?
Comprehensive plans provide a rational basis for local land use decisions. A central aspect of implementing a comprehensive plan is exercising land use regulation authorities. A comprehensive plan is intended to reflect the community’s priorities and shared vision for future growth and development. It considers population trends, housing needs, transportation, economic development, parks, community facilities, utilities, and more. Once the plan is updated, it will serve as Peshtigo’s key planning and policy tool to guide decision-making for the next 20 years

How can the community get involved?
A steering committee that is formed by the Town will work with the Commission during the process and help guide decisions of the plan update. There will be multiple steering committee meetings through the process which will be open for the public to attend. All upcoming meeting dates/times along with agendas will be posted on this project webpage and through the Town’s website.
